Annually there are robotics workshops held at the Ontario Science Center. In the "Interfacing Workshop" a project was set up for the Tab Robotics SumoBot to play "Laser Tag". This add-on consists of a PIC 16F505 chip and a dozen supporting components.

Offered here is a simple kit of parts to implement this project. It includes;

1. (1) Pre-programmed PIC 16F505 - currently version 1.3F of Myke Predko's code
2. (2) Vishay TSOP2238 IR Receivers
3. (1) High Intensity IR LED
4. (3) High Intensity White LEDs
5. (1) Red LED
6. (2) 100 ohm resistor 1/4 watt carbon film
7. (1) 4.7K ohm resistor 1/4 watt carbon film
8. (2) 47 uF 25V electrolytic capacitors

KIT DOCUMENTATION - The only documentation shipped with the kit is an inventory list. All the appropriate documentation can be downloaded here. It is recommended that you download both the presentation and hand out. While the handout has more/better explanatory text, the presentation has more/better pictorials.

• PIC Resources Disk [Elmer 160] ($5.00) - This disk contains Microchip's MPLAB IDE; version 6.62 and the latest and greatest version 7.x (currently v7.62) If you started Elmer 160 under version 6.x, you will initially have some minor extra work in 7.x because it places files differently. (I am running v7.60 here and all my 6.62 project files converted over with a total of 20 minutes work, one time). In addition the disk also contains the following materials;

  • All Elmer 160 lessons to date (currently #1-20)

  • Microchip's C18 and C30 C-compilers, student versions (they are full versions for 60 days, then they lose some of their optimization), needs MPLAB 7.30 or later
